I got my hair done blonde balayage-style @ mi the salon

Oh ya by the way, this ain’t a sponsored post. I wish it was because it was so expensive I get full body shudders. *shudders* So hit me up if you wanna #spon me and do my hair for free! lel…

Before the review, some background info:

I’ve dyed my hair a total of maybe… 5 times since 2012. My first was a safe brown, cause I  was a friggin’ coward. Then about a year later I decided “eff dis”, and bleached my whole head and did grey. That was maybe in 2014? Then on to a purplish violet colour, cause my grey hair was already looking violet-y at the end of it’s life so I thought I might as well do it on purpose. So violet it was. Then came a blue in 2015 that eventually lightened to ice blue tips many moons later. That was pretty. Then because my bleached hair had by then almost completely grown out, I re-bleached my hair in 2017 for a rose gold that lightened to a pastelly pink.

As I’m typing this, I’ve just now realised how lucky I am that my hair colours all faded into legitimate looks. I’m grateful, cause my wallet definitely can’t handle more trips to the salon. 🙌

Anyway, May 2018 came and brought with it a feeling like I wanted to kinda go blonde (but not that blonde cause you know your sis be a brown girl and that shit doesn’t always go well for people who aren’t Queen Bey).

I usually got to 99 Percent Hair Studio in Bedok but my friend and I were gonna be in town that day so we just decided to try out a place near us. So I did a cheeky google and saw that Salon Vim had a new-ish sister salon called ‘mi the salon‘ at ION Orchard. I thought it was just a fancy/weird spelling of “me”… But nope! There’s actually a Chinese reason for the name, but I won’t get into that. I’m brown, you see. *nods sagely* You can read about it on their website here if you’re interested.

Because I’m a n00b who has never done a salon review before, I didn’t even think about taking legit “before” pics. Don’t worry, the next time I do my hair, I’ll remember! Hopefully.

But here’s one of my hair after the wash, if it helps:

Wet hair

You may be able to see that the ends of my hair are very yellow and pretty fried. Also, remember I have a brown girl’s hair so the frizz is made that much more obvious. Genetic lottery amirite?

The salon was doing some Instagram promotion thing at the time so it was a packaged thing that I did. I forget… what exactly it was called. I’M SORRY. But just know it was STILL HELLA EXPENSIVE.

What I got done (I think):

  1. Bleach (Probably once or twice? Maybe thrice?)
  2. An ash blonde colour (Probably?)
  3. Treatment… (I dunno which one?)

And yes, as I write this I realise how completely useless that information is because I CAN’T REMEMBER ANYTHING. UGH. 🙄

I promise I’ll do better next time?

I got assigned to Senior Stylist Karl Ko, and lemme say, he did a great job with my crispy fried hair. He’s a cool dude, and he’s got the skills to prove it. He made my hair glorious! You can find him on Instagram here.

While my hair didn’t feel a lot less fried (maybe a little?), it definitely looked less fried. And that’s all that matters! I doubt my hair can be saved~so that’s all I can wish for~!

Also I loved the colour! I couldn’t go as blonde as I wanted to go ’cause he suggested not murdering my hair, so we didn’t bleach it a lot. But I think this blonde looks way better against my brown skin. I also said I wanted it in the “balayage” style (I was pronouncing it “BAYalage” when I first walked in…), which he pulled off exactly as I imagined. You can’t really see it in the picture, but he dyed the areas above the blonde a brown, cause I wanted to make the transition just unffffFFFF 👌👌👌.

Thanks Karl!

BUT!

BUT BUT BUT BUT BUT BUT BUTT!

The whole thing cost a total of… S$800+.

I KNOW!!!! IT’S SO EXPENSIVE!!!! MY PAPA HAD TO #SPON ME, THANKS PAPA.

I don’t think I’ll be going back there any time soon, but if you got the money for it, you can be almost 100% sure you’ll be happy with the hair you leave with. My cheap-butt cringes just thinking about it, but I guess that’s the kind of price you gotta pay for quality pampering. 🤷🏽‍♀️

This is the finished look:
